Abstract

In this brief study, the Division of Occupational Health, through its laboratory and medical sections, endeavored to facilitate the implementation of recommendations made to those industries exhibiting a lead hazard. Laboratories performing bioassays for lead were located and supplied with urine and blood samples containing a known amount of lead nitrate. The results from these laboratory analyses were gathered and a list compiled denoting those laboratories which showed satisfactory agreement with known specimens. This procedure also permits the division to evaluate the efficacy of its recommendations for engineering control as it is reflected by the results of urine or blood lead tests or both performed by laboratories that have analyzed “spiked” samples.
