A Note on the Marciana Dante and its “Signature”

Pages 310-311 | Published online: 10 Nov 2014

Abstract

In 1968 Professor Mirella Levi D'Ancona published an article on one of the most extensively illustrated and best known manuscripts of the Commedia (Fig. 1): “Un Dante della Marciana e Jacopo da Verona.”1 At the beginning she stated: “Nonostante l'importanza del codice, esso non è mai stato illustrato adeguatamente né studiato a fondo. Per questa ragione non è stato notato che il manoscritto reca le sigle di tre artisti. Sono queste sigle, o firme, che desidero di segnalare ora.”
