Abstract

During 1998, the contemplation of ethical issues consumed the American public. Deliberating a president's right to privacy versus the country's right to know what transpires in the White House fueled months of heated, often scurrilous, debate. Compared to past public concern over political indiscretions, the end of the millennium witnessed repeated discussion of the honesty, propriety, and dignity of elected officials.
