The Bathroom in (and As) Art

Pages 25-32 | Published online: 21 Dec 2015

Abstract

People visit the bathroom many times a day, at home and away. Bathrooms are an important part of life, and yet we rarely talk about them in public. Almost everything done in the bathroom is a private matter: we use the toilet, wash ourselves, brush our teeth, comb our hair, shave, put on makeup, or examine ourselves in the mirror. Because of their special but often unspoken purpose, bathrooms and things related to them are interesting to artists.
