Notes
1 Family Days are drop-in educational programs designed for children of all ages and their families. Family Days are informal and flexible—families choose how long they will stay, in what they will participate, and how they will interact with the exhibition. Regionally, the family aspect of Family Days is quite significant and is an important aspect for consideration when serving the community through outreach.
2 El Paso is often referred to as a closed educational loop. Due to our geographical remoteness and the complexities of being both a border city and bordering another state (New Mexico), the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) prepares most of the teachers who teach in the regional districts, and students who attend UTEP especially for teacher education programs are largely from the local regional districts and will return there.
3 “Dialogue” is used interchangeably with “discussion” despite Burnham and Kai-Kee’s (Citation2011) popular distinction between dialogue, discussion, and conversation (pp. 79–93).
