Abstract
Objectives: To assess the value of Balint groups run by psychiatrists for general practitioners
Methods: Doctors associated with 2 Divisions of General Practice in Adelaide, South Australia were invited to attend a meeting regarding the formation of Balint groups. Measurements of effectiveness of the 2 resulting monthly groups were made over the next 6 months, using the following parameters:
Results: Two thirds of general practitioners indicating interest in attending Balint Groups participated on a regular basis. Regular attenders indicated at the focus group that their objectives were satisfied and that they wished to continue. Results of the questionnaires have been tabulated and will be presented, with discussion focusing on those factors found to be valuable and work-enhancing.
