SUMMARY
Two experiments on bud pruning of Monterey and ponderosa pines have been carried out in the A.C.T. From the work so far undertaken, indications are against the use of the method as normal practice in the treatment of these species. The chief disadvantages are likely to be associated with the development of stem bends, excessive growth of the lower branches, cost of treatment, and development of epicormic shoots on the trunk. On the other hand, there is the advantage of having clear wood at the centre of the log.
