SUMMARY
During the latter part of 1953 and early 1954, a survey of fencing practices was conducted throughout Australia. The main purpose of the survey was to obtain data on which to base recommendations for preservative treatment of fence posts.
Questionnaires were forwarded to nearly 700 farmers and graziers in six States, and over 400 were returned. Information as to species used for posts, cost, life, and causes of failure of posts was obtained. In addition, the survey has established that the majority of farmers contacted prefer wooden fence posts, and are interested in preservative-treated round posts.
