The Distribution and Abundance of Pink Gum in Australia

Pages 11-18 | Received 29 Sep 1969, Published online: 15 Apr 2013

SUMMARY

Pink gum (E. fascicuhsa F. Muell.) occurs in the Mount Lofty Ranges south of Gawler, Kangaroo Island, the southeast of South Australia and the western extreme of Victoria. Its shallow rooting habit, the prevailing soil types, and the marked seasonal pattern of rainfall make it very sensitive to changes in soil moisture. This sensitivity to seasonal extremes of soil moisture is believed to determine the distribution and abundance of the species.
