SUMMARY

Insecticides within the groups: chlorinated hydrocarbons, organophosphates and carbamates were tested against Sirex noctilio F. Seven organophosphates plus one carbamate were shown to be effective. Cage and field trials were used to demonstrate effects of the chemicals on the behaviour, longevity, fecundity and emergence of S. noctilio. A preliminary field test on the development of a trap-tree system for detection and perhaps, control of this woodwasp was completed with encouraging results.
