SUMMARY
Current and potential fibre yields from tree plantations are discussed in relation to available silvicultural technique and desirable utilisation standards. It is suggested that a fibre yield of 50t/ha/annum should be set as the goal for intensively managed and utilised fibre farming endeavours. A plea is made for further consideration of the potential of Eucalyptus as a fibre crop under local conditions. It is suggested that increasing consideration should now be given to the production of future fibre requirements by the private sector.
