The Uncertain Future for Hardwood Framing

SUMMARY

The continuing ability of native myrtaceous hardwoods to compete successfully in the sawlog market is examined; the problem is related both to the rapidly increasing availability of plantation pine and also to the declining supply of mature hardwood logs.

Some of the conclusions of the Australian Forestry and Wood-based Industries Development Conference are questioned.
