Abstract

This paper positions the contributions to this special issue within the main currents of contemporary analyses of gendered geographies in Australia, Aotearoa/New Zealand and the Asia‐Pacific. In so doing it charts the growing strength in the region of geographical research focusing on gender issues and informed by feminist theory. This research has ranged from scholarship emphasising the empirical documentation of gendered differences to more recent scholarship informed by post‐structuralist theories. We identify several important themes reflected in research on gendered geographies in the region and, indeed, in the contributions to this special edition; representation; subjectivities; the body; diversity and difference; political action and methods.
