Abstract
As the Australian ageing population expands, there is an increasing need for quality gerontological research to inform psychological practice. The analyses undertaken for this paper indicate that the volume of geropsychological research has increased substantially, both in Australia and overseas. Membership of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) Interest Group on Ageing is small, but since 1997 has not fallen as much as the membership of some other well-established groups. Further participation by trained psychologists in gerontology research is required, and psychologists' training should include stronger emphasis on ageing.
