Different approaches to the evaluation of programs and services

Abstract

Evaluation now forms a distinct discipline which contains description of many different ways to evaluate programs or services. In this article the development of the field is outlined, thereby elucidating the nature of current controversies and division of opinion. Sow of the purposes of evaluation are considered, followed by a description of the more commonly used approaches. Some major tasks facing evaluators today are outlined.
