On the systematic position of Delamarea attenuata (Phaeophyceae)

Pages 313-318 | Published online: 17 Feb 2007

Abstract

Culture experiments with Delamarea attenuata (Kjellman) Rosenvinge have demonstrated a microthallus in the life history of this species. It is proposed to give up the order Delamareales (Lund, 1959) and to place the family Delamareaceae (Zinova, 1953) in the Dictyosiphonales between the Striariaceae and Punctariaceae. The occurrence of microthalli in nature is discussed.
