Chlorococcum pamirum and C. salinum, two new species of the Chlorophyceae from Central Asia

Pages 121-128 | Accepted 02 Jul 1987, Published online: 17 Feb 2007

Abstract

In an initial screening study of 27 algal isolates from the USSR, eight previously described species of Chlorococcum were identified by the author. Further, recent study of 11 of the 27 strains that had been identified as Pseudochlorococcum typicum shows two of them to be new species of Chlorococcum. A taxonomic key based on readily distinguishable morphological traits has been constructed for the 46 currently recognized species of Chlorococcum. This key supersedes the keys prepared for the 36 species described in the original monograph published in 1970.
