Changes in the electroencephalogram of the chicken produced by stimulation of the crop

Pages 163-170 | Received 11 Jun 1971, Published online: 08 Nov 2007

Synopsis

Stimulation of the crop by injections of water or saline produced electroencephalogram (EEG) arousal. Inflation of an implanted crop balloon by air alone had no effect if done slowly over 30 s. Inflation by ice water was more effective than by air, water at 40 °C or saline. Crop volume does not appear to be reflected in the EEG.
