Abstract

1. Sodium concentration declined and potassium concentration increased sharply in turkey skeletal muscles during the first 3 weeks of life.

2. Testosterone and 17‐β‐oestradiol implantation of 2‐d‐old male turkeys resulted in increased moisture and Na concentrations in leg muscle.

3. Testosterone but not 17‐β‐oestradiol implantation also increased the moisture content of breast muscle.
