ABSTRACT
In this study the effect of plastic deformation on internal friction peaks in Al based alloy is discussed. For that, an Al–Mg–Si alloy (AA6060) is subjected to cold rolling with a ratio ϵ = 80%. For both samples (water quenched and water quenched then cold rolled), the results revealed the appearance of a peak P1 at medium temperature (∼463 K), which is related to the dragging of Mg or Mg-Si clouds in the strain field of dislocations firmly pinned by metastable precipitates. Moreover, cold rolled sample exhibits a second peak PR at high temperature that is interpreted as a transition from high IF background to low IF one due to a recrystallisation process. Besides to dynamical mechanical analysis, DSC, dilatometry and Vickers microhardness are used to follow the structural evolution of the alloy.
