Abstract
The object of this paper is to put forth some of the legal decisions that Canadian courts have rendered regarding, first—expert opinion evidence in general, and second—handwriting evidence. Its main purpose is to serve as an aid to the members who are working as document examiners and who are often called to express their opinion before the various courts of law on matters relating to documents. Even though an expert document examiner does not consider himself an expert concerning the legal aspects of the subject of which he undertakes to testify, it is nevertheless desirable that at least a general appreciation of the legal history regarding expert testimony and handwriting evidence should be at one's disposal in order that he may render useful assistance to the Court.
