Identification of the Single Element Typewriter and Type Element

ABSTRACT

Accidental characteristics in the form of beads may be imparted to the printing surface of single element type balls during the manufacturing process. This feature provides the examiner of questioned documents with a significant means of identifying or eliminating a particular element. The nature of accidental bead characteristics is illustrated and discussed.

RÉSUMÉ

II arrive que des caractéristiques accidentelles se produisent sous forme de “grains” sur la tête d'impression simple des machines à écrire, lors de leur fabrication en usine. Ces caractéristiques fournissent à l'examinateur de documents suspects un excellent moyen d'identifier ou d'éliminer telle ou telle tête d'impression. La nature de ces points accidentels est illustrée et discutée au cours du présent article.
