Determination of Barbiturates in Postmortem Blood by High Pressure Liquid Chromatography: A Comparison with a Differential Ultraviolet Spectrophotometry Method

Pages 31-36 | Received 20 Nov 1979, Published online: 22 Nov 2013

ABSTRACT

A high pressure liquid chromatographic (HPLC) procedure utilizing an internal standard is described for the quantitative determination of barbiturates in blood. Seventeen postmortem blood specimens containing barbiturates were analyzed by HPLC and a differential ultraviolet spectrophotometric (UV) method. The results by each method displayed a high degree of correlation r=0.995.
