ABSTRACT

A system of classifying automotive paint using an Infrared (diamond window) technique was previously discussed(1,2,3) and a manual system was proposed(4) for storing the data to permit comparison with spectra from forensic exhibit material. Further work has led to the development of a computerized library and a search and retrieval system based on the classification of the chemical components and the color of the individual layers. The criteria for the design of the system, the method of data entry and the query system will be described.
