Evaluation of a Fully Automated Thermal Desorption Device for the Headspace Screening of Fire Debris

Pages 141-148 | Published online: 22 Nov 2013

ABSTRACT

An evaluation was made of the Perkin-Elmer Automatic Thermal Desorption System (ATD-50) as a means of fully automating the analysis of fire debris for accelerants by headspace gas chromatography using a DB-1 capillary column.

Several different operation modes were investigated and the optimum conditions for the analysis of fire debris were determined.

Tenax-GC was evaluated as the system adsorbent.
