Blood Alcohol Analysis: Comparison of Whole Blood Analysis by Gas Chromatography with Serum Analysis by Enzymatic Method

Pages 317-320 | Published online: 22 Nov 2013

ABSTRACT

Venous blood samples drawn from 14 drinking subjects were analyzed by a gas chromatographic (GC) procedure and compared with serum samples analyzed by an automated alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) based enzymatic assay using a DuPont ACA® Ill Discrete Clinical Analyzer. The conversion factor for serum to whole blood for alcohol was found to be 1.14 (range 1.12–1.18, s.d. 0.015).
