A Case Report Associating A Correctable Typewriter Film Ribbon With Questioned Typewritten Documents

Pages 99-104 | Published online: 22 Nov 2013

ABSTRACT

Five Vehicle Liability Insurance slips and a Brother Correctronic GX7000 printwheel typewriter containing a partially used correctable film ribbon, were submitted for examination. The use of microscopy combined with transmitted and oblique lighting techniques enabled enhancement of specific paper fibres on the questioned documents and their corresponding impressions on the ribbon. Paper fibres on a single typed character from each document were physically matched with the paper fibre impressions from the corresponding character on the ribbon. Each document was conclusively associated with the ribbon.
