Visualizing latent fingermarks by aqueous electrolyte gel on fixed aluminum and steel surfaces

ABSTRACT

Steel and aluminum metals have extensive uses, and on their surfaces, various non-porous surface techniques are being applied for the development of latent fingermarks. Recently, aqueous electrolytes have been reported for the development of latent fingermarks on metal surfaces. The metal surfaces were immersed in the electrolyte solution for development of latent marks but the immersion method for large and bulky fixed surfaces seems to be unrealistic. Therefore, in the current work, gel-based electrolytes have been prepared and applied to fixed or vertical surfaces. The suggested method has also been evaluated by a comparative assessment with powdering, cyanoacrylate fuming, and small particle reagent methods.

RÉSUMÉ

L'acier et les métaux d'aluminium ont des utilisations étendues, et diverses techniques de développement pour surface non poreuse sont appliquées sur ces surfaces. Des électrolytes aqueux ont été récemment signalés pour le développement d'empreintes latentes sur les surfaces métalliques. Les surfaces métalliques ont été immergées dans la solution d'électrolyte pour le développement d'empreintes latentes, mais la méthode d'immersion pour les grandes surfaces fixes semble irréaliste. Par conséquent, dans le présent ouvrage, des électrolytes à base de gel ont été préparés et appliqués sur des surfaces fixes ou verticales. La méthode proposée a également été évaluée par expertise comparative avec des méthodes de poudrage, de vaporisation de cyanoacrylate et de méthode à réactif de petites particules.
