SUMMARY

In the Echinoderm, Echinaster sepositus, the nucleus of growing oocytes contains lampbrush chromosomes. The structure of these chromosomes, isolated in a physiological solution and studied with phase-contrast microscope, looks like the one of lampbrush chromosomes in Amphibians: numerous pairs of loops are inserted at the level of chromomeres. Some loops, with their own morphology and their steady position along the axis of chromosome, make it possible to identify bivalents.
