Duration of the Mitotic Cycle in Triticale

Pages 537-542 | Received 30 Dec 1971, Published online: 30 Jan 2014

SUMMARY

The duration in hours of the mitotic cycle and its phases in Armadillo and Rosner, two cultivars of the amphiploid triticale, were determined by 3H-thymidine labelling of root meriste- matic cells grown at 25° ± 0.5°C and found to be:

The two cultuvars did not differ significantly in their amount of nuclear DNA, nuclear volume or rate of DNA synthesis. Thus the duration of the mitotic cycle and S were independent of nuclear DNA content and the differences observed were attributed to the different geographical adaption of the two cultivars.
