The Occurrence of Hexaploid Plants Among Autotetraploid Populations of Sugar Beet, (Beta Vulgaris L.) and the Production of Tetraploid Progeny using a Diploid Pollinator

Pages 225-228 | Received 11 Apr 1972, Published online: 30 Jan 2014

SUMMARY

Autohexaploid individuals are occasionally encountered among autotetraploid sugar beet. One such plant closely resembled its tetraploid sibs, and was detected only by routine cytological examination. After pollination by diploid beet the hexaploid produced two viable seeds, and the resulting seedlings were eutetraploid and hypertetraploid.
