SUMMARY

The polytene chromosomes of salivary glands in Cansilianura malatestai are analyzed. The study reveals the presence of a diploid number 2n = 8, which is the minimum ever observed in European neanurids. This karyotype is characterized by very long chromosomes with many heterochromatic bands. Some considerations on phylogenetic and evolutionary relationships in the context of European neanurids are made.
