SUMMARY
The karyotypes of Aegilops speltoides, Ae. longissima, Ae. squarrosa and Ae. caudata were produced by applying the recently developed CHy-banding schedule. Minor modifications of the original wheat schedule were necessary to produce the best banding in each of the considered species. CHy-banding proved to be a highly reproducible and time saving technique. The application to species of Aegilops and the results are discussed on the basis of the present knowledge on the evolution of these species.
