SUMMARY
Backcrossing to wheat of a wheat, Triticum aestivum, X barley, Hordeum vulgare, hybrid gave rise to progenies that segregated plants with mosaic polyploid pollen mother cells. The heritable trait behaved as a single dominant character and was associated with male sterility and reduced female fertility. It appeared to result from the presence of an additional alien barley chromosome. In an intergeneric hybrid with rye, Secale cereale, the trait was not expressed.
