Abstract
The structure of heterochromatin in mitotic chromosomes in Prochilodus lineatus was investigated by digesting the chromosomes with three restriction enzymes, BamHI, DdeI and HindIII. The results suggested the existence of distinct classes of highly repetitive DNA among the A-chromosomes. Also, a difference was revealed between the heterochromatin of the complement of A-chromosomes and that of the B-chromosome; the latter could only be cleaved by HindIII.
