Abstract

B-chromosomes were found in a cytotype of Salvia coccinea (2n = 22+0–1B) naturalized in Western Ghats of India. The essential oil yield was very low in this population of S. coccinea. The deleterious action of the B-chromosome affected the essential oil biosynthesis and chemical characterization in this taxon.
