Abstract
Mimosa pudica, Vitex trifolia, Centella asiatica, Leucas aspera and Plantago major are widely used in traditional medicine. In an attempt to determine whether aqueous extracts of the plants interact with genetic material, mammalian cytogenetic assay was used. Mice which received intraperitonial injections of different doses of the extract of Mimosa pudica showed dose dependent increase in chromosomal aberrations, SC damages and micronucleus frequency, while the other plant extracts did not induce significantly higher frequency of chromosome aberrations.
