ABSTRACT
Micro-porous propellants enhanced with chopped carbon fibers (CCFs) were studied to investigate the effects of CCFs on the mechanical properties, thermal behavior, and combustion performance. The results indicated that when the content of CCFs below 2.5 wt%, CCFs can be evenly and randomly dispersed, without obvious aggregation. The mechanical properties were effectively tailored by adding CCFs with different amount into composition, and the mechanism of enhancement is further elaborated. When the content is 2.5 wt%, the impact strength and tensile strength show the optimal value. Furthermore, after the addition of CCFs, micro-porous propellants still exhibit significant progressive combustion properties and their exothermic peaks change slightly.
