The Effect of Acceleration on Composite Propellant Combustion

Pages 215-229 | Received 08 Mar 1971, Published online: 10 May 2007

Abstract

The effects or burn time (web thickness) and acceleration on the weight, form and chemical composition of the molten metallic material on or adjacent to the burning surface of aluminized composite solid propellants, and the relative importance of the AP crystals, binder and the aluminum on burning rate acceleration sensitivity were experimentally determined. The experimental data were used to evaluate existing analytical models for the acceleration induced burning rate augmentation of composite propellants.
