The Hydrogen-Oxygen Reaction in Potassium Chloride-Coated Vessels in the Region of the Third Explosion Limit

Abstract

New measurements are reported in the region of the third explosion limit in the hydrogen-oxygen system. Detailed studies have been made of the effects of temperture, mixture composition and vessel diameter on the third limit pressure. These results have been interpreted in terms of the chemical processes occurring and of the Frank-Kamenetskii theory of thermal explosions.

The Frank-Kamenetskii theory is capable of giving a good quantitative account of the principal experimental observations.
