Nitric Oxide Formation Around Droplets Burning at Elevated Pressures

Abstract

NO formation around single droplets may be an important phenomenon with respect to total NO formation in the diesel engine. A model is presented to predict the NO formed by a fuel droplet burning above the critical pressure of the fuel. The model is applied to the diesel engine in an attempt to predict measured exhaust gas NO concentrations. The results indicate individual droplet burning is important for low fuel/air ratios.
