A Theoretical Criterion for Dynamic Extinction of Solid Propellants Fast Depressurization

Pages 37-39 | Received 26 Nov 1973, Published online: 21 May 2007

Abstract

Dynamic extinguishment of solid propellants by rapid depressurization is examined with heat losses from the flame as the extinction mechanism. A theoretical extinction criterion is given and its implications are discussed. Based on this criterion alone, several trends of the dynamic extinction problem can be predicted and they are in good agreement with the experimental results of Park, Ryan and Baer (1973)
