Abstract

The analyses of Thring and Newby and Craya and Curtet on the confined turbulent jet system are reviewed. The Craya-Curtet number for a combustion system has been derived from an overall analysis by assuming that the reduced density distribution in the system can be represented by a single mean value. The axial progress of combustion and the mass flow rates in the central region of the jet, calculated from the data on the isothermal confined jet system by using the above mentioned “Combustion Craya-Curtet number”, have been found to be in reasonably good agreement with the values calculated from experimental measurements taken in a cylindrical test furnace

The rate of entrainment in the combustion system has been correlated by modifying the free jet equation of Ricou and Spalding.
