Low Emission Combustors for Gas Turbine Powerplants

Pages 133-136 | Published online: 21 May 2007

Abstract

The results of experiments performed to evaluate a combustor concept which is applicable to gas turbine engines and involves fuel prevaporization/premixing and lean combustion are described herein. The concept of lean homogeneous combustion may be applied to the design of combustors for aircraft, industrial and automotive powerplants. To date attention has been directed primarily toward the automotive application, and it is shown that the data acquired can be used to design gas turbine combustors having predicted performance characteristics which are better than those required to meet the 1976 Federal Standards regulating automotive emissions.
