Converter Efficiency in Burner Systems Producing Large Excess Enthalpies (Reply by Authors to Comment)

Abstract

An attempt is made to reassure Dr Fox (1976) which suggests that his argument may be based largely on insufficient appreciation of the variety of systems which our (1974) paper was intended to cover. This is, no doubt, chiefly due to the cursory manner in which we attempted to summarize all of the many effects and merits of recirculatory burning. A brief expansion of the part dealing with converter efficiencies illustrates the profusion of possible systems and raises a number of interesting points—particularly as regards the distinction between heat sinks external to the converter and to the recirculatory system as a whole. We are in broad agreement as regards the advantages of “excess enthalpy” burning for energy conversion.
