SHORT COMMUNICATION

A Simple Method for Predicting the Overall Performance of Fuel-Oil Fired Boilers

Pages 163-168 | Received 08 Jun 1977, Accepted 22 Aug 1977, Published online: 07 May 2007

Abstract

The “well-stirred furnace” model has been modified to include soot radiation. A generalized chart is presented that allows a rapid estimation of the overall heat transfer rate and exit gas temperature for a given firing rate in a fuel-oil fired boiler. Comparison of the experimentally measured values in two fuel-oil fired industrial boilers with those predicted by using the present method indicates that the present method can be used to predict the overall performance of fuel-oil fired boilers as a first approximation.
