Abstract

Experiments on flame propagation through an interface between layered methane and air, in which linearly distributed concentration fields are frozen in space and time, have been conducted by using a confined combustor with length 10 cm. A layer of combustible mixture is formed in an intermediate space bounded by two parallel filter plates separating the test gases flowing along the outer surface of the filters. The flame is ignited at an end wall and propagates horizontally towards the other end wall. It is observed that the leading flame propagates at a constant speed without interactions with the afterburning flames.
