Propene Combustion Process in a CSTR

Abstract

The propene low-temperature combustion process has been studied by means of the CSTR experimental technique. Dynamic behaviour with varying feed ratios and residence times has been investigated. The system exhibits periodic thermokinetic oscillations and overshoots which are either hot ignitions or cool flames.

Gas chromatographic analyses have been performed for selected runs at steady state. The rate of product formation has been measured and a kinetic scheme based on two main reaction paths, one leading to acrolein and the other passing through CHs formation is suggested.
