Observation of the Effect of Streamwise Vorticity on the Spreadind of Flames in High Speed Flow

Pages 447-451 | Received 21 Jun 1988, Published online: 27 Apr 2007

Abstract

Experiments were conducted to observe the effect of streamwise vorticity on the rate of propagation of confined. high-speed, non-premixed turbulent flames. An array of large scale vortices was introduced into the flow by convoluting the trailing edge of the splitter separating the fuel and oxidizer. Photographs of the resulting flame profile indicated that the flame spreading rate was more than double that produced in the absence of the convolutes.
