ABSTRACT

This paper presents and refines semi-empirical techniques to predict the NOx emissions and compares the results with measurements from coal-fired power plants. The predictions are made by assuming independent effects of fuel properties, boiler design, and boiler operating parameters. The main effects are described by $ Each of the individual effects are further, divided into more detailed, but also independent effects. The above techniques have been presented in previous work. This paper extends that work by comparing the predictions made using the above techniques with measurements made in 4 additional power plants firing 9 different coals. In addition, this paper presents new evidence showing that increasing the fineness of the coals increased NOx emissions by up to 40 ppm (d, 3% O2). The new information on the effect of fineness on NOx emissions is integrated into the previous estimating techniques
